In the most recent issue of the San Francisco Business Times (December 7-13), J.K. Dineen wrote about the area from Sixth Street to Ninth Street on Mission in SoMa where the SoMa Grand condo tower and the new federal building are located. He pointed out that the neighborhood is rapidly changing and that the first closings occurred at the SoMa Grand last week. With the new owners soon moving into the building, other businesses, especially restaurants, are beginning to also move into the area.
Within a few blocks, three new restaurants including a gourmet burger spot and bar and a Brazilian tapas spot and nightclub have opened. In the article, Jenny McNulty, executive director of Urban Solutions, which works with small businesses in depressed areas, provided information on two new cafes currently undergoing renovations, a Vietnamese restaurant, an optometrist and a produce grocery market. Dineen further reported that "Joie De Vivre's,Chip Conley, has invested heavily in the area, signing on to provide services at the SoMa Grand and taking over management of four neighboring hotels."
As the neighborhood changes, property values for smaller buildings have increased. Dineen cited several examples.
The article is informative. Unfortunately, I cannot link it. I recommend it to people interested in SoMa real estate.
